Attitude of Worship
Do your mornings reflect an attitude of worship?
I know (quite often) that my mornings don’t. Not because I don’t want to worship God, but because the morning has a way of unloading the day’s chores and to-dos the moment I regain consciousness from sleep.
But, is that not because it’s a habit I’ve instilled? I’m my own worst enemy, I suppose. So if I’m trying to retrain my mind, I have to renew my mind.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will (Romans 12:2, NIV).
To remain above the fray, regardless of our circumstances, we have to renew our minds. And to renew our minds is to worship the Lord through Thanksgiving.
The moment I wake up, I should thank Him for the breath in my lungs and the comfortable bed I lie in. If I walk past a grove of oak trees on my morning walk, I should tell him how grateful I am for them. That plant in my yard that wasn’t blooming yesterday but is today, well, that’s a thing to be thankful for! There are so many ways to worship God in our gratitude.
We were made to worship him. We were made to glorify Him. And if I don’t praise Him, the things around me will praise Him instead. What a loss for me!
If praise, thankfulness, and worship are the first things from my mouth (or mind) in the morning, I’m telling God I trust Him to bring the day to me as He wants. With that confidence, I can take on the day knowing I’m in God’s will no matter what the day throws at me.
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out” (Luke 19:40, NIV).
Finch food for thought: Those whom we love, we let them know. He wants to hear it from you.
