A Guy Who Died on a Stick
The other day, I was reading a response to a post on social media. Isn’t that half the fun sometimes? Reading the crazy reactions to posts. The post was about Christ. Essentially, it was a witness post, explaining how Christ died for our sins, and it’s free to accept. But, we have to choose to accept it.
This is where the responses to the post were as diverse as the population on Earth.
For those of us to believe in Jesus, His death, and resurrection, it’s a simple choice: of course, choose Christ! Our eyes have been opened, so we see the sacrifice Jesus made - that God made - and we fully accept it, wanting to tell others about it. We want those we love to live with us in Heaven forever.
Some responses agreed with the post, some hated it, and some didn’t understand it. It was apparent that the world needs to know the Truth. But, one guy’s comment stood out, and in it, the response said: Who cares about this Jesus? He’s just a guy who died on a stick. It has nothing to do with me.
This comment broke my heart. The guy couldn’t see what God was doing in sending His son, Jesus, to pay for our iniquity. He doesn’t know that Jesus’ death was the best news he will ever get! I’m not angered by his response. I understand that if you can’t see the truth behind the action, of course, it doesn’t make sense.
But Jesus wasn’t “just a guy.” It wasn’t “just a stick.” Jesus is way out of ourselves, our sins, and a way to be with Jesus forever. Hell is a horrible place that will be forever for those who go there, in the same way heaven is forever for those who choose Christ.
That guy’s response was sobering, making me realize so many people need to hear about the love of God, what Jesus did for us, and how we will live forever with Him as soon as we leave this earth. Pray for those around you who don’t know Him yet! Jesus is more than just some guy on a stick.
He is our literal Saving Grace.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16, NIV).
Finch Food For Thought: We have a God-sized hole in our hearts that only Christ can fill to sanctify and satisfy us.
